The subjects were 3 cancer patients and 10 nurses in the palliative care unit. The data was collected from the participant observation of patients and nurse in the care unit, semi-structured interview to the nurse about the scene, which a touch arose in. These data were analyzed by the qualitative and inductive approach. The findings were as follows. 1. The touch was classified by eight types; 'the touch which aimed at the working', 'the touch for the confirmation', 'the touch to give a comfort', 'The touch to keep safety', 'the touch to support patient's independence', 'the touch of sign', 'the touch reaches to feeling', 'the touch, instead of the word'. 2.
